LSHS News Of Importance by Allen Owings, Newsletter Editor Spring Tour It is time once again to begin preparations for our spring Louisiana State Horticulture Society tour. This year we will travel to Acadiana country. Plans are to depart from Baton Rouge (or wherever you reside or desire to depart from) mid-morning on Tuesday May 25th. We will meet in the Carencro area for lunch then spend the afternoon touring two nurseries and one vegetable operation in the area. The evening meal will be at Prejeans. The next morning we will get an exclusive "behind the scenes" tour of McIlhenny at Avery Island and conclude the morning with a visit to Live Oak Gardens in New Iberia. We can then have lunch and return home. More exact details, times, directions will follow shortly. Hotel reservations need to be made by Sunday April 25th. I apologize for the short notice. We will stay at the Comfort Inn Suites, 2817 Hwy 14 in New Iberia on Tuesday evening. The room rate is $55/night (single or double). Designate you are either with LSHS or LSU. Their phone number is 337.367.0855. Tour Next Year There is serious discussion about a trip to Costa Rica for 2005. Let Annie Coco (acoco@agctr.lsu.edu) know if you are interested in attending. New Honorary Member Congratulations to Margie Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Farm and Nursery in Amite, LA. She is the newest honorary member of LSHS. Journal for 2005 The LSHS Journal for printing in 2004 (dated January 2005) has a paper submission deadline of June 1, 2004. Please forward any articles to Ed Bush (ebush@agctr.lsu.edu). Copies of the 2004 Journal are being mailed to everyone in case sopme of you have not yet received. We need input from everyone to make this a successful venture. Thanks!!
